I tried it... But then they said, they wanted cash!!
As a tax payer, I want to know if I have the right to know what was done with the money I paid to the government? I do not mean the general details - but ALL the details... Where is my money going?
All of us do some kind of recording of their expenses. Some do it in their minds, while others prefer writing it down. How much you earn, how much you spend -All this is tracked in our little "finance notebooks". And there goes one entry under the title "TAX".
Currently India is experiencing a software boom. Every person - left, right & centre - works in an IT company with a hefty pay. And with this hefty pay comes a hefty tax. What is happening to this huge tax that we all are paying?
We have economists who are talking about the "economic imbalance" that is being created because of the growing software industry in India. They are talking about things like "only the software professionals are getting richer, everything else remains where it is". This maybe somewhat true... But cant our great Economists come & tell us how we can do good with the money that is flowing from the global market into India?
I am ready to pay double the tax that I am paying today - If only I can be assured that the money I am paying is going to those needy poor people... I perfectly agree about the economic imbalance. So what can be the solution? Are we expected to step down, so that everyone is equal? Or can we pull up the ones below, so that we are equal? Definitely the second option is better... But how can it be implemented? By paying our tax into the pockets of those who promise to lead our nation? Wont the rich continue to become richer in such a case?!! :)

Well, if you take from the rich and give to the poor, you'd be robin hood! ;)
But seriously, I'd rather have the government invest in infrastructure that makes a global impact on all economic sections - roads, schools, traffic management, incentives for adopting new laws - than have it go directly to the "needy" poor people!

But if you have some insight into the amount of tax we pay in india as compared to what the people in other countires like US/Canada?UK are paying, you would agree that we are not paying too much of tax. So I personally dont complain about the amount of tax I pay though i end up paying a huge amount of tax.
The other point that you are raising is good. where does this money go? I agree most of the money that is collected through tax is not used for a good purpose or siphoned off by the beaurocrats and that what we call as corruption. But think of this. It has taken 50 odd years for the corruption to flourish to this level in our country. Will it go in a night or so... It will take some time to away or rather it will never go away completely and we need to learn to live with that as there always is some corruption everywhere in this world. But with the mst able finance minsiter and a taleneted economist as prime minster of this country I can surely hope that the money i pay as tax would be used for some good purpose, to closen the divide between poor and rich and to drive this country on the path of development smoothly.

Though I feel it's a little too late to comment on. Bet you wouldn't even have a look at.
You know what ! No one ..seriously no one likes to let the the money go just like that ..the money which amounts to 12-15 hours of hard work ..even more in few cases.
But conceptually the tax is supposed to help our infrastructure grow (which seemingly is not so fast & visible as it should be).
Nothing much to say ..just that hope for the day wherein we'll have some politician thinking our concerns & relieving us :)
